I’m most familiar with this city, partly because it never radically changes but mainly because I lived here for the first 13years of my life. Zurich is my childhood, and I still see it through child-like eyes. When I go back I want to drink piping hot chocolate from Spruengli with cold whipped cream on it, I want to go to the same cinema my parents used to sneak me into at age 8 for a PG 15 movie! I want to feel 11yrs old again and slow dance at my first school disco and I want to see my friend Gita, who I’ve known since I was 3yrs old and effortlessly chat with her, because I can, because I’m home.

FAVORITES

Restaurants:
- Kronenhalle (www.kronenhalle.com) is one of the most famous restaurants in Europe! It opened in 1862 and has always been famous for its culinary excellence and for the steadily growing collection of fine art paintings that artists used to give the restaurant as payment for their meals. My staple diet there is the avocado vinaigrette, spatzle and bradwurst followed by the worlds best chocolate mousse!

- Emilio’s (www.emilio-restaurant.ch) this family run Spanish restaurant is another institution in Zurich. It opened in 1940 and its divine Spanish menu hasn’t changed since! Their specialties are Paella and Roast buttery Chicken. The chicken is a secret mama’s recipe that melts in your mouth and is served with a choice of spinach, fries or baked noodles.

Shops:
– Trois Pomme dons the best selection of designer fashion, ranging from Balenciaga to Alaia. Expensive but a shoppers delight!

– Kowa off the famous Bahnhofstrasse, this store has the best range of cotton, comfortable yet elegant clothing. Ranges of kowe t-shirts in all colours and shapes are the softest pieces of clothing you will ever own!

Café/Bakery:
- Spruengli (www.spruengli.ch) needs no introduction, and if you need one then you have not lived and need to catch the next flight to Zurich and taste the truffles du jour!
